Sony has announced that it will be broadcasting a showcase that’s seemingly dedicated to the PlayStation 5. The showcase will take place next Thursday, September 9th at 9PM UK time.
“You’ve been awfully patient, and we thank you for that. And now we’re looking forward to showing you what we’ve been working on” Writes SIE’s Senior Content Communications Director Sid Shuman. The Showcase is set to last “around 40 minutes” and will feature updates from both PlayStation Studios developers as well as “some of the industry’s most imaginative developers” – I can only assume this means their third-party development partners.
Shuman also confirmed that the next generation of PSVR will not be making an appearance during the showcase.
So, what could we expect to see next week? Well it’s likely that we could get another look at Horizon: Forbidden West despite the game slipping to February 2022. It would also be reasonable to suggest that we’ll get an update on Gran Turismo 7 and perhaps a new launch date/launch window?
Of course, no speculation would be complete without mentioning the upcoming God of War sequel, reportedly titled God of War: Ragnarök. Since the game’s announcement last year, Santa Monica Studios has been pretty quiet on the upcoming sequel, apart from announcing a delay to 2022 back in June. Perhaps now is the time to show us where they intend to take Kratos and Atreus next.
Beyond PlayStation’s first-party developers, there’s a chance we could get a fresh look at Forespoken and Final Fantasy XVI, however these might be saved for Square Enix’s upcoming showcase at Tokyo Game Show. Rockstar could also make an appearance at the showcase with the PS5 version of GTA 5, with rumours suggesting that remakes of GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas are currently also in development.
