Cyberpunk 2077 returns to the PlayStation Store

Having been absent for more than six months, Cyberpunk 2077 has finally returned to the PlayStation Store.

CD Projekt Red’s open-world RPG suffered from a variety of issues particularly on base last-gen consoles when the game released back in December; poor visuals, bugs, and significant performance problems left the game in an unplayable state. With numerous retailers and even CDPR offering refunds, Sony went a step further by removing the game from the PlayStation Store back in mid-December.

In a post on Twitter (seen below), the official Cyberpunk account announced the game’s return to the PlayStation Store, with a free next-gen upgrade slated to release “in the second half of 2021.”

Furthermore, a follow-up post advised PlayStation fans to play the game on either PS4 Pro or PS5, as apposed to the base PS4 which released in 2013.

“Users may continue to experience some performance issues with the PS4 edition while we continue to improve stability across all platforms” the post read.

“The PS4 Pro and PS5 versions of the game will provide the best experience on PlayStation.”

A quick look at Cyberpunk 2077’s store listing seems to echo CD Projekt Red’s advice:

“IMPORTANT NOTICE: Users continue to experience performance issues with this game. Purchase for use on PS4 systems is not recommended. For the best Cyberpunk experience on PlayStation, play on PS4 Pro and PS5 systems.”

Cyberpunk 2077’s return to the PlayStation Store and last week’s big 1.23 patch mark a much needed step in the right direction for CD Projekt Red. The Warsaw-based studio have endured a series of setbacks since the game’s underwhelming launch, including a large ransomware attack back in February.
