Just a week after Cyberpunk 2077’s launch, Sony has removed the game from sale on the PlayStation Store “until further notice.” In addition, those who own a digital copy are eligible for a full refund. At the time of writing, the game can no longer be found on the store.

Sony also issued the following statement online:

“[Sony Interactive Entertainment] strives to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction, therefore we will begin to offer a full refund for all gamers who have purchased Cyberpunk 2077 via PlayStation Store. [Sony Interactive Entertainment] will also be removing Cyberpunk 2077 from PlayStation Store until further notice.

Once we have confirmed that you purchased Cyberpunk 2077 via PlayStation Store, we will begin processing your refund.  Please note that completion of the refund may vary based on your payment method and financial institution.”

The decision comes after many players have been left unhappy with the poor quality of the game on PS4 consoles, specifically the base model; bad performance, low resolution and a plethora of bugs have led players to accuse CD Projekt Red of deceptive and misleading behaviour.

The removal of the PS4 version also means that PS5 owners can no longer purchase the game as it plays the last-gen version through backwards-compatibility with some performance and visual boosts. It’s worth noting that while next-gen consoles handle the game much better, they aren’t without the issues which persist across all other platforms.

CD Projekt Red has also issued a statement, saying that the decision to remove the game was discussed with Sony:

“Following our discussion with PlayStation, a decision was made to temporarily suspend digital distribution of Cyberpunk 2077 on PlayStation Store. You can still buy physical copies of the game in brick and mortar stores and online. All purchased digital and physical copies of the game will continue to receive support and updates as we continue to improve your experience.

According to our knowledge, starting today, everyone who is not willing to wait for updates and wants to refund their digital copy of the game, can do so by submitting a request at https://www.playstation.com/cyberpunk-2077-refunds/.

We are working hard to bring Cyberpunk 2077 back to PlayStation Store as soon as possible.”

As it stands, the digital PS4 version of Cyberpunk 2077 is the only console edition to be removed from sale, the Xbox version of the game is still available for purchase on the Microsoft Store.

When asked by Reuters if the Xbox version will also be removed, joint-CEO Adam Kiciński said that “We are not in such discussions with Microsoft at the moment.”
