Microsoft and 343 Industries have given fans their first look at Halo Infinite’s multiplayer.
The reveal trailer showcases some of Infinite’s map selection in addition to a few new arrivals to the sandbox; the grapple hook, VK78 Commando, and what looks to be some kind of scanner grenade all feature in the trailer alongside classics such as the sniper rifle. Capture the Flag and Oddball are also set to be making a return in Infinite.
In a post on Xbox Wire, Head of Creative Joseph Staten spoke about addressing “key areas of focus” that were essential to getting the game in the best possible shape.
“Since that time, we’ve been focusing hard on the elements that make Halo uniquely fun, while polishing and optimizing the game in preparation for launch on Xbox and PC” Staten said.
“We’re not done yet, but we’re getting close. We can’t wait for you to finally play for yourselves.”
Staten also revealed the Spartan Academy, which will act as a training hub where new players will be able to familiarise themselves with the controls and learn more about the game’s sandbox. The academy also provides players with a place to sharpen their skills against bots before heading into multiplayer matches. “We’ve got more in store for bots and Academy content over time that we look forward to rolling out as the game evolves” Staten teased.
As for the campaign, we also got another short look at the latest chapter in Master Chief’s story. In the trailer, we see Chief navigate through a damaged spaceship in zero gravity. We later see Chief interact with a new AI known as “The Weapon”, who was designed to stop Cortana. Along with the Pilot, Chief and his new AI partner must also work to stop the Banished from controlling Zeta Halo.
“We are continuing the story of the Master Chief and Cortana from Halo 5, but also telling a story that’s welcoming for new players.” Staten said.
Halo Infinite’s campaign and free-to-play Multiplayer will both launch “Holiday 2021” for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
