Xbox CCO says The Elder Scrolls VI is “coming along well”

Xbox Chief Content Officer Matt Booty has provided Elder Scrolls fans with a brief but positive update on the next mainline instalment of the series.

Speaking with Variety, Booty was asked about how the team handles expectations and disappointment from fans that the next Elder Scrolls title is once again absent from the company’s annual showcase.

“I would say one of the more challenging balancing acts of someone in a job like mine is balancing that you want to go show the world all the cool stuff you’re working on, and you want to get them excited early, but we also know that we want to wait till the right moment. And when you decide to show it, you want it to be the best you’ve got,” Booty explained.

“And also that when you show the game, you’re also giving them a promise of, hey, it’s coming soon.”

Booty then offered an update on the game, stating that development was “coming along well”, promising fans that more would be revealed when the time is right.

“So I can tell you, having visited Bethesda and sat with Todd [Howard] and seen “Elder Scrolls” playing, it looks amazing, and it’s coming along well. And we’ll make sure to announce it and really reveal it at the right time.”

The Elder Scrolls VI was first announced at E3 2018, with game director Todd Howard saying that the next Elder Scrolls game would be Bethesda’s next release after Starfield, which was released in 2023.

“We’re also building toward the game after that (Starfield), and it’s the one you keep asking about,” Howard said at the time.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was the last mainline Elder Scrolls title that Bethesda released nearly 15 years ago. Since then, the game has received several content updates as well as rereleases across three console generations.
