Capcom has revealed that the next Resident Evil game to be remade will be Code: Veronica.
Capcom’s fifth Resident Evil remake, called Resident Evil Veronica, was revealed as part of Summer Game Fest, and will release in 2027 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC and Switch 2.
Resident Evil – Code: Veronica was originally released as a Dreamcast exclusive in 2000, before making its way to GameCube (2003) and PS2 (2001) as Code Veronica X. The game was also later ported to Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2011.
Set three months after the events of Resident Evil 2, Code: Veronica follows Chris and Claire Redfield as they attempt to survive a virus outbreak at a remote prison island. The game was the first Resident Evil title to use real-time 3D environments and backgrounds, compared to the static 2D backgrounds used in the previous games.
Despite issues development issues, Code: Veronica is considered one of the best Resident Evil games in the series, with many fans viewing it as the last survival/horror entry before Resident Evil 4 introduced more action-heavy gameplay to the series.
