The Switch 2 edition of Elden Ring, named the Tarnished Edition, has a new release date.
The game was originally meant to release last year, yet early hands-on impressions were far from complimentary, with the game’s poor performance being a key talking point.
As a result, Bandai Namco announced that the game would be delayed to 2026 to “allow time for performance adjustments”.
Now, in a post from the game’s official X account, a new release date has been confirmed.
“Your journey to the Erdtree begins here,” the post reads. “Rise, Tarnished.”
“Elden Ring Tarnished Edition is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on August 28, 2026.”
The Tarnished edition will include both the base game and the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, as well as brand new content, including two new classes, and the ability to customise Torrent, the player’s ethereal mount.
The new content will also be made available to players on other platforms via the appropriately named Tarnish Pack DLC, which will release at the same time as the Tarnished Edition.
According to developer From Software, the Tarnish Pack will be priced at 550 yen (including tax), which, when directly converted, equates to $3.44 / £2.56.
Originally released in 2022, Elden Ring launched to an overwhelmingly positive reception from both players and critics alike, netting a Metacritic score of 96.
Since its release, the game has sold more than 30 million copies, with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC selling over 10 million copies.
Last year, From Software also released a multiplayer spin-off of the game. Elden Ring Nightreign received considerably less favourable reviews, scoring a 77 on Metacritic, yet it has still sold more than 5 million copies since launch.
