Maverick Games, the studio founded by ex-Forza Horizon devs, has revealed its first game, Clutch.
Led by former Forza Horizon creative director Mike Brown, Clutch is an open-world driving game set to release in 2027. In a video announcing the game (seen below), Brown revealed that the game had been in development for the last three and a half years.
“It’s actually the longest development of any game I’ve ever worked on,” Brown admitted, “and that’s allowed us to make some big investments that I know you’re going to really appreciate.”
The game runs on a custom version of Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5, promising a level of detail and accuracy “never before seen in in-game car models.”
“Every exterior curve, every fleck of paint, every interior stitch, every groove of tyre wear recreated perfectly,” Brown said. “And on older cars, there’ll be signs of wear, signs of love, signs that the cars have actually been driven, being on an adventure.”
The story of Clutch follows two sibling racing prodigies who are competing for fame and glory in the prestigious R1K racing series. The siblings will also encounter the Midnight Collective, a group of car enthusiasts who care more about the love of racing and the “raw thrill of speed” as opposed to the “pomp and pageantry” that comes with the R1K series.
Maverick Games says that the game’s full trailer will be shown during Summer Game Fest, which kicks off this week.
