Microsoft has announced that Fable has been delayed. The game will now release in February 2027.

In a post on X, the Xbox maker explained that the decision to move Fable to 2027 was so that it can “have the dedicated moment it deserves”, as mega releases like Modern Warfare 4 and GTA 6 loom.

“This is year is packed with incredible games for XBOX players to enjoy, from Halo: Campaign Evolved, Gears of War: E-Day and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 to Control Resonant, Star Wars: Galactic Racer and Grand Theft Auto VI,” the post read.

“In order to plan our game launches through the holidays, in a way that works best for players, we’re moving Fable to February 2027 so it can have the dedicated moment it deserves.”

“We’re excited to be giving players a major new look at Fable, as well as our broader lineup, at XBOX Games Showcase on June 7.”

In a separate post from the game’s official X account, it was admitted that the delay was unfortunate, but assured fans it would be worth the wait, while also revealing that more of the game will be shown at next week’s Xbox Game Showcase.

“We know this stings, but it won’t be much longer before you’re back in Albion making morally questionable decisions,” the post read. “We’ll be sharing some big Fable reveals @XBOX Showcase on June 7th, so be sure to tune in.”

While no specific release date has ever been announced, the game was set to release in Autumn 2026, following an impressive showing at this year’s Xbox Developer Direct.

In a newly posted interview, Xbox Chief Content Officer Matt Booty said that Fable is in “great shape” despite the unfortunate delay.

“We talked about Forza Horizon 6 and how the team at Playground is doing really well,” Booty said. “[They’re] also doing really well on Fable. The game is in great shape, the team feels really good, we’re excited about where the game is.”

“We want to make sure that that game has a window all to its own, so we are going to move it from this fall to February,” Booty explained.

“And again, we really just want it to have its own moment to shine. And related to Fable, we will be seeing more of it in [the Xbox game] Showcase. So we’re going to have plenty for people to see.”

“It really is coming together well, exciting stuff, and then we’re going to move to February.”
