Nintendo has announced that the Nintendo Switch 2 has continued its exceptional sales momentum, with 10.36 million systems sold as of September 30th.
When compared to other consoles, Switch 2 has sold more than Switch 1 (4.7m), PS4 (7.5m) and PS5 (7.8m) managed to sell in their first two quarters, making it the biggest console launch of all-time by a significant margin.
If its phenomenal sales momentum continues, the Switch 2 will also surpass the Wii U’s lifetime sales by the end of the year (13.56m).

As for software, Nintendo revealed that Mario Kart World, the Switch 2’s marquee launch title, has sold a total of 9.57 million units, indicating a 92% attach rate to the Switch 2 hardware. The game is also currently selling at twice the rate of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, making it the fastest-selling game in the series’ history.
In response to the latest sales figures, Nintendo have also raised its full-year hardware and software sales forecasts to 19 million units (up 4m) and 48 million units (up 3m), respectively. Should this target be met, the Switch 2 will be roughly 2.74 behind the GameCube’s lifetime sales (21.74 million).
Nintendo also offered an update on sales figures for the original Switch, which has now sold 154.01 million units since it launched in 2017. Despite these astronomically high sales, the Switch is still in 2nd place when it comes to Nintendo’s best-selling consoles, with the DS marginally ahead, having sold 154.02 million units.

Nintendo still expects to sell an additional 2 million Switch consoles by the end of the fiscal year, which would make it the second-highest-selling console of all time behind the PlayStation 2 (160 million).
Nintendo’s next fiscal report will include upcoming releases such as Kirby Air Riders (November 20th) and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (December 4th), as well as the recently released Super Mario Galaxy remasters. We’ll also get an update on Pokémon Legends: ZA, which has already been revealed to have sold more than 5.8 million copies in its first week.
