The Pokémon Company has announced that Pokémon Legends Z-A has sold over 5.8 million copies in its first week.

The game’s impressive early sales figures were revealed in a statement from The Pokémon Company, who also revealed that roughly half of all sales were for the enhanced Switch 2 version.

According to X (Twitter) user Pierre485, Legends Z-A ranks as the franchise’s fifth-best-selling game in terms of week one sales, sitting above Pokémon X/Y and Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu/Let’s Go Eevee. This sales milestone also means that the five fastest-selling Pokémon games are all Nintendo Switch titles.

• Pokémon Legends: Arceus – 6,500,000 copies (3 days)
• Pokémon Sword / Shield – 6,000,000 copies (3 days)
• Pokémon Brilliant Diamond / Shining Pearl – 6,000,000 copies (3 days)
• Pokémon Legends: Z-A – 5,800,000 copies (4 days)

In addition to its commercial success, Pokémon Legends Z-A has also received mostly favourable scores from critics, with a Metacritic score of 78 at the time of writing, with the OpenCritic score slightly higher at 82.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A sees players return to the Kalos region to compete in Lumiose City’s Z-A Royale, while uncovering mysteries from the city’s past. The game also sees the protagonist join Team MZ, who serve to protect the city from the rapidly growing number of rogue mega evolved Pokémon.

While Pokémon Legends: Arceus was set roughly 150 years before the main games, Pokémon Legends: Z-A takes place five years after Pokémon X and Y, serving as a sequel to the sixth-generation Pokémon games that released on 3DS in 2013.
