Knights of The Old Republic remake is reportedly still in development

The remake of Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic is still in development, it’s claimed.

That’s according to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, who spoke with two sources at developer Saber Interactive. Responding to a post on ResetEra, Schreier claimed that the game is still in development, even if the game’s future is unknown.

“‘Is it alive?’ and ‘Will it ever actually come out?’ are two very different questions,” Schreier said. “A third is ‘If it does ever come out, what will it actually look like?’

“That said, I’ve talked to two people at Saber who both say they’re still currently working on it, so I don’t believe that the comment that it isn’t being worked on “in any way” right now is true.”

Schreier later clarified his comments in a follow up post on X/Twitter:

“Can’t say whether the KOTOR Remake will ever actually *come out*, but yes, two people from Saber Interactive tell me they’re still on it, despite recent rumors that nobody is working on the game.”

In a recent episode of Giant Bomb’s Game Mess Mornings, industry insider Jeff Grubb claimed that the game was not currently being worked on by any developers.

“The rumour was that it got taken away from Aspyr, who has done a lot of these Star Wars remasters and moved over to Saber Interactive,” Grubb said. “There’s been rumours that it’s moved elsewhere since then”

“I just want to clear it up – this this game is not being worked on right now, full stop. This game is not being worked on in any way at any studio.”

“Just to 100% confirm it, this game is not being worked on right now.”

Grubb’s report came after Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors declined to offer any update on the title during an earnings presentation. “I noticed that anything I say to this becomes a headline, so that is my only comment,” Wingefors said.

The Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic remake was announced at a PlayStation showcase event in 2021 as a PS5 timed console exclusive. The game was in development at Aspyr Media, who are best known for having worked on ports of classic Star Wars games such as Episode 1: Racer and Republic Commando.

Since the reveal, the game has been hit with various development issues, resulting in Saber Interactive stepping in to assist. In July 2022, a report from Bloomberg suggested that Saber Interactive may have taken over development completely.
