DOOM Eternal releases on Nintendo Switch next week

Almost 9 months after its initial release, DOOM Eternal is finally coming to Nintendo Switch on December 8th, that’s next Tuesday at the time of writing.

The Nintendo Switch version includes both the campaign and Battlemode, the 2v1 multiplayer mode which pits a lone fully-armed slayer against a duo of demons. However, unlike the 2016 reboot, DOOM Eternal will be a digital-only release, a cartridge version of the game will not be available for sale.

The Nintendo Switch version of DOOM Eternal is being handled by Panic Button, a studio with a reputation for bringing demanding titles to Switch; some of their past ports include DOOM 2016, Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, Wolfenstein: Youngblood and Rocket League.

Like many shooters on Nintendo Switch, DOOM Eternal will make use of the Joy-Con’s gyroscope to provide motion aiming alongside traditional analog stick aiming to maximise precision.

A follow-up to the 2016 DOOM reboot, DOOM Eternal launched back in March and received a mostly positive reception with the PC version earning an 88 on Metacritic and 89 on OpenCritic. The game has also earned several nominations for this year’s Game Awards, including Best Action Game, Best Score and Music, Best Audio Design and the big one: Game of The Year.
