Kojima Productions, the development team led by industry veteran Hideo Kojima, has confirmed that a new project is currently in development. Unsurprisingly, no further details were revealed.
The announcement was made via posts on the Developer’s Twitter and LinkedIn accounts as part of a recruitment post for their office in Tokyo.
Kojima Productions released their first game, Death Stranding back in November last year, after splitting from Konami in 2015. The game received mostly positive reviews and went on to release for PC in July this year, having previously been a PlayStation exclusive.
In an interview with Livedoor (translated by VGC) prior to the game’s PC release, Kojima insisted that Death Stranding was a sales success, and has allowed the company to fund its next project.
“We’ve absolutely crossed the line we needed to cross to be in the black, including recovering development costs, so I’d call it a successful result.”
Kojima Productions will be celebrating its fifth anniversary in December, with some speculating we may hear more about the new project at The Game Awards – it would probably be wise to manage expectations given how recent this announcement was made.
