The Game Awards expands to London and Tokyo this December

The Game Awards, the annual games award ceremony hosted by Geoff Keighley will take place on Thursday, December 10th.

In a shake up from previous years, the 2020 Game Awards will be broadcast from 3 studios located in Los Angeles, London and Tokyo. As expected, there will be no live audiences in attendance at any of the 3 venues.

In an interview with Variety, Keighley explained that the idea to broadcast the ceremony from 3 connected cities was inspired by Death Stranding, a game which Keighley himself cameoed in as Ludens Fan.

“I was like, well, maybe we could do this on a world scale,” Keighley said, referencing Death Stranding’s healing of a disconnected United States. “That was really the impetus for the idea – we would never normally be able to do that, to have three cities live. But I’m like, this is a unique year of circumstances, so let’s try that. I think it sends a really great message, and I think it’s what I’d like to do more of.”

providing that 2020 doesn’t throw anymore curveballs our way, this year’s Game Awards should be a great curtain closer on a crazy year for the industry.
