CD Projekt Red has revealed that The Witcher 4 is currently scheduled to release in 2028.
In a video addressed to fans of the series, CEO Michał Nowakowski outlined what fans can expect to see at the developer’s Gamescom booth.
The video offers plenty of updates on The Witcher franchise, including the next entry in the beloved RPG series
“Our team here at CD Projekt Red HQ is hard at work on a brand new saga, one with Ciri at the helm,” said Nowakowski.
“We have more than 500 incredibly talented developers working to create something truly special for you.
“The Witcher 4 features a huge and immersive open world, intense and action-packed gameplay, and a deep, impactful story that we hope will stay with you for a long time.
“Simply put, this is our biggest, our boldest and most ambitious game to date.”
Nowakowski continued: “Now I know you’re eager to learn when it’s coming. That’s the question we’re hearing from you all the time.
“So while we’re not showing The Witcher 4 at the event and we’re not ready to share an exact date, I can tell you this: The Witcher 4 is targeting a 2028 release window.”
“I know it’s a bit of a wait and you’d love to play it sooner, but let the team cook. It will be worth the wait.”
Development on the next game in The Witcher series was first confirmed by CD Projekt Red during a studio update in 2022.
The Witcher 4 was then fully revealed during the 2024 Game Awards, which confirmed that Ciri would be the series’ next main protagonist.
Earlier this year, CD Projekt Red revealed that in addition to The Witcher 4, a new expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is also in development. The developer has confirmed that Songs of the Past will feature at Gamescom later this week.
