Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness is out now for Switch 2

Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness is available now on Nintendo Switch 2.

The game has been added to the Nintendo Switch Online GameCube app, which is available to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers. The GameCube library already includes titles such as Super Mario Strikers and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.

First released in 2005, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness takes players to the Orre region, where they’ll battle and catch shadow Pokémon. Players then use a device known as the Snag Machine to rescue shadow Pokémon and purify their hearts.

In the original GameCube release, purified Pokémon could be transferred to other games. As it stands, the rereleased version will not offer the same feature, nor will it support Pokémon Home, making it a solely standalone experience.

Gale of Darkness isn’t the only Pokémon title coming to Switch 2, Pokémon Colosseum is also confirmed to be coming to the GameCube library at a later, unconfirmed date.
