French President Emmanuel Macron has congratulated Expedition 33 developer Sandfall Interactive for their record-breaking success at this year’s Game Awards.
The Montpellier-based studio had already made history with a record 13 nominations, but continued to break records as Expedition 33 secured 9 wins on Thursday night, the most in Game Awards history.
In addition to winning Game of The Year, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was also awarded Best Art Direction, Best Score, Best RPG, Best Narrative, Best Game Direction, Best Indie Game, Best Debut Indie Game and Best Performance (Jennifer English as Maelle).
In a post on Instagram, Macron wrote: “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has just been named Game of the Year in Los Angeles. A historic first for a French title! Great pride for Montpellier and for France. Congratulations to the Sandfall Interactive team. For future generations and those that follow!”
Surprisingly, this isn’t the first time that Macron has celebrated Sandfall Interactive’s success. Earlier this year, the French President congratulated the developer following Expedition 33’s critical and commercial success.
“One million copies sold and currently one of the highest-rated games in history, and yes, it’s French,” Macron wrote. “Congratulations to Sandfall Interactive and all the creators of Expedition 33. You are a shining example of French audacity and creativity.”
