Kojima Productions reveals new teaser for OD

Kojima Productions has revealed a new look at their upcoming horror game, OD.

The latest look at the Xbox-published title was shown as part of an anniversary live stream hosted in Tokyo, with Hideo Kojima describing it as a completely new gaming experience.

“This is a special system,” Kojima said. “Even the infrastructure is totally new… nobody has ever done this before. So, I am repeating tests and experiments and can’t speak anymore… There are lots of hints in the video.”

Phil Spencer, Head of Gaming at Microsoft, also made an appearance at the event, describing OD as “bold, unique, and unmistakably from this studio”.

“We’re deeply supporting the production,” Spencer said. “It’s our technical work with Unreal that we’re doing with the team, both with the flashy [stuff] you see on the screen, but also a lot of stuff behind the scenes.”

“We have one goal in mind, which is to bring Kojima-san’s vision to life for all players, everywhere, and we can’t wait for players to experience it when it’s ready.”

It was also revealed that the game is being built with Unreal Engine 5 as opposed to the Decima Engine used for the Death Stranding series. It’s likely that Sony had not, or would not, approve the use of the Guerrilla-developed engine for OD, as the game is not being published by Sony, but rather Microsoft.

Originally announced at the 2023 Game Awards, OD was described by Kojima as a “new form of media” developed in collaboration with director Jordan Peele. It was also announced that Hunter Schafer (Euphoria), Udo Kier (Blood for Dracula), and Sophia Lillis (IT) would star in the upcoming horror title.
