Sony has revealed its upcoming range of Ghost of Yōtei consoles and accessories, which are due to release alongside the game on October 2nd. The reveal came as part of a 20-minute State of Play presentation for the game.
Featuring a striking design of Mount Yōtei, the gold pattern draws inspiration from the Japanese art form of kintsugi, a traditional technique that involves repairing ceramics with gold and lacquer.
A black design will also be available exclusively from PlayStation Direct in regions where it’s available, as well as “select retailers” elsewhere. Whilst the gold design is inspired by kintsugi, the black edition is inspired by another Japanese art form known as Sumi-e, which is the use of black ink on paintings.
Each console bundle will also include a copy of the game and matching DualSense controllers, featuring a silhouette of the game’s main character, Atsu. Both controller designs will also be available for purchase separately.
For those who already own a PS5 or PS5 Pro, console covers featuring the gold, kintsugi-inspired design will be available to purchase via PlayStation Direct.
“Our inspiration for this design came straight from one of the core aspects within the game: a deep focus on exploration,” said creative director Jason Connell. “This includes the hand-drawn icons Atsu marks on her map, a kintsugi-style effect pulled from her Ghost mask, and brushstrokes reminiscent of her Sumi-e paintings.”
“The towering Mount Yōtei is included at the center of the console design to pull it all together, and Atsu is spotlighted on the DualSense controller. Each of these elements were thoughtfully woven into both the console and controller designs.”
Ghost of Yōtei releases on October 2nd, exclusively for PS5.
