IO Interactive is opening a new studio in the UK

Hitman developer IO Interactive has announced that it has opened a new studio, located in Brighton, England. IO has confirmed that the studio’s core team is already in place and will contribute to all active development projects.

We are extremely proud and excited to open our next studio in Brighton, where we see enormous potential to expand our incredible team and attract the very best talent from the exciting UK development scene.” Said IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak.

We’re eager to expand our operations to new shores and believe that IOI Brighton is an extremely appealing destination for developers of all crafts.

IO Interactive was founded in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1998, with the developer’s second studio, based in Malmo, Sweden opening in 2019. A third location in Barcelona, Spain was opened in 2021, followed by a fourth studio in Istanbul, Turkey earlier this year.

Currently, IO are working on multiple projects, in addition to continuing support for the Hitman World of Assassination. Back in 2020, the developer announced that it was working on a James Bond game, codenamed Project 007, which promises to feature an original James Bond story.

Back in February, IO announced that they were also working on an online fantasy RPG, currently named Project Fantasy. The game will reportedly be exclusive to Xbox and PC after internal Microsoft documents revealed that Xbox Game Studios are listed as the publisher.

As for the Hitman franchise, IO co-owner and Chief Creative Officer Christian Elverdam told Eurogamer that the next major entry is “a little bit on hiatus”. While the news may have disappointed Hitman fans, Elverdam did suggest that we will see Agent 47 again. “He’s still very much in the heart of this company,” Elverdam said.
