Justin Roiland, founder of Squanch Games and co-creator of Rick and Morty, has resigned from his position at the game studio.
In an announcement posted on Twitter, Squanch Games confirmed that Roiland had submitted his resignation last Monday, January 16th. The post also assured fans that the development team will continue to support High on Life, in addition to developing new titles.
“On January 16th, 2023, Squanch Games received Justin Roiland’s resignation.” the statement read.
“The passionate team at Squanch Games will continue developing games we know our fans will love while continuing to support and improve High on Life.”
In addition to his resignation at Squanch Games, US network Adult Swim has announced that it has cut ties with Roiland. The network did assure Rick and Morty fans that the show will continue without its co-creator, who voiced both the title characters.
While no reason is provided for Roiland’s departure at either company, it’s assumed that this is due to allegations of domestic violence regarding in incident in 2020. Roiland recently appeared in court for a pre-trial hearing after being arrested and charged in August 2020 with one count of domestic battery with corporal injury, and one count of false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud and/or deceit.
