While most people tend to use Google Chrome when it comes to web browsing these days, Microsoft have revealed a new feature coming to Microsoft edge that might interest cloud gamers.
Clarity Boost is a new feature coming to Microsoft Edge that provides “the optimal look and feel while playing Xbox games from the cloud.” That’s according to an Xbox Wire blog post from Program Manager Milena Gonzalez, who revealed that the feature would be available to all next year. The new feature utilises “a set of client-side scaling improvements” to improve the video quality of whatever game you’re streaming – in laymen’s terms, it uses the browser to boost image quality.

For those keen to check out this new feature sooner, Clarity Boost is now available in the Canary build of Microsoft Edge, which is a development build of the browser that’s updated daily. You can download the Canary build of Microsoft Edge from the insider page here.
Once installed, check that you’re on build version 96.0.1033.0 or newer, you can do this by typing edge://settings/help into the address bar. Next, login to Xbox Cloud Gaming and start up a game, in the more actions menu (…) select “Enable Clarity Boost” and start playing.
This latest update is Microsoft’s continued dedication to the streaming part of the Xbox ecosystem, having brought game streaming to Xbox consoles earlier this month.
Xbox cloud streaming is available on iOS, Android, PC and Xbox consoles in 25 countries, including the UK, US, Canada and Australia. To see if your country supports Xbox Cloud Gaming, check out the full list of supported countries here.
