New World, Amazon Games’ much delayed MMO launched earlier this week, and has certainly been popular with the PC Community. A quick look at the game’s SteamDB page shows that the MMO has currently peaked at 734,496 players – an impressive feat for sure.
But despite Amazon’s best efforts, many players will be all too familiar with the infamously long server queues that currently plague the game. Heck, even I’m queuing to log in as I write this. Take a quick look at r/newworldgame and you’ll find all manner of comments, memes and complaints, as users creatively kill time. However, after beating the queue and logging in, some players have come face to face with what they believe is the root of the problem… AFK players.
As you can see from this Reddit clip, there are a few players who aren’t exactly keen on returning to the queues, and have found a simple workaround to stay logged in. New World has a 25 minute AFK timer, which in layman’s terms means that you’ll be logged out after 25 minutes of inactivity. In order to prevent that, players are exploiting the game’s autorun feature to infinitely run into walls. As long as their character continues to move, the AFK timer will never trigger.
Of course, a simple solution would be to base the AFK timer around inputs, rather than movement, but it seems some people are already one step ahead.
Time will tell if Amazon can solve this problem, and indeed the widespread queuing issues. But for now, be sure to make the most of your time in Aeternum, you could be waiting a while before you get to log in again.
