A slew of reports have set the Battlefield rumour mill in motion as industry insiders are reporting that Battlefield 2042 will be hit with a delay.
News surrounding this potential delay began last night after VentureBeat’s Jeff Grubb hinted that another major title will be getting delayed this week. Grubb later confirmed on Discord that Battlefield 2042 was the game his tweet was referring to.
Other insiders also confirmed that a delay could be on the cards, with YouTuber DealerGaming tweeting that the game would be getting pushed to 2022.
Tom Henderson, a notably reliable Battlefield insider, also weighed in on the potential delay, reporting that late November could currently be the new release window, rather than a 2022 release. Henderson also states that the game’s beta, reportedly scheduled for September 22nd, has not been affected. It’s worth mentioning that neither DICE or Electronic Arts have announced the date for the game’s beta, only that it would take place this month.
Members of the Battlefield community (including Henderson) have been critical of DICE and EA’s lack of communication regarding Battlefield 2042 over the last month. While this is purely speculation, perhaps this silence is a sign that DICE have encountered some issues in the latter stage of development. Of course, until anything is made official by DICE or EA, be sure to take these reports with a pinch of salt.
As it stands, Battlefield 2042 is releasing on October 22nd for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5 and PC.
