Campo Santo joins Valve

Firewatch developer Campo Santo have announced that they have “agreed to join Valve”. The announcement was made via a blog post on the developer’s website which went into great depth about how and why the decision was made.

Campo Santo were also quick to say that the team will “maintain our jobs as video game developers and continue production on our current project, In the Valley of Gods.” The post continued to explain that everything the team does is “geared towards surprising, delighting, and entertaining the customers who have shared in our success.”

The agreement came to fruition after “a series of long conversations” and that “Both sides spoke about our values and how, when you get right down to it, we, as human beings, are hard-limited by the time we have left when it comes to making the things we care about and believe in.”

This announcement comes shortly after Gabe Newell stated to press that Valve was “going to start shipping games again.” Furthermore, Newell also announce that Valve are working on 3 new VR games and a fully fledged single player title – Half Life 3 anyone?

Campo Santo’s latest project, In the Valley of Gods, has players exploring an ancient Egyptian valley in the middle of the desert. Players will find themselves “uncovering treasure and treachery in pursuit of a discovery that could bring you fame and fortune-or leave you for dead, buried beneath the sands” – how delightful. The game is expected to launch sometime in 2019, Campo Santo are also still working on the Switch version of Firewatch, which is expected to release sometime this year.
