After a press release leak online, Ubisoft and Massive entertainment have announced that The Division 2 is currently in development. No real information about the game was given, except that it’ll run on an updated version of the Snowdrop Engine that was used for the original game.
As is the way with many AAA games these days, several studios are stepping in to aid with development; Ubisoft studios from Annecy, Bucharest and Shanghai make the list as well as Redstorm Reflections.
Julian Gerighty, Creative director at Massive has said that the second game will take “everything we learned over the past two years and applying it towards the sequel to make sure we get it right.”
With any luck, The Division 2 will take a long-haul approach akin to that of Rainbow Six: Siege, which Ubisoft intends on keeping supported for at least a decade.
Support for the first Division game isn’t done quite yet however, as it was also announced that two more title updates are on the way. These updates will add global events and four new legendary missions. The first two legendary missions will release in April, alongside an Xbox One X patch which will bump the resolution up to 4K. The final two missions will arrive in June alongside ‘Shields’, which are achievements that unlock items for use in the sequel – whenever it releases.

Ubisoft have announced that more information will be coming at E3 in June, likely in the form of their annual press conference.
