PlayStation are reportedly planning a revival of the Killzone series, with a new Killzone project currently in the early stages of production.

That’s according to a report from MP1st, whose sources say that a remake or remaster of Killzone is currently in the works at Guerrilla Games, the series’ original developers. The report also claims that Guerrilla are working alongside an external, non-first-party developer to develop the game.

While it hasn’t been confirmed to them, MP1st predicts that the original game will be the one receiving the remake treatment.

MP1st sources claim that work on a Killzone project was set to become Guerrilla’s main focus after the release of their Horizon multiplayer spin-off, Hunter’s Gathering. However, after the developer decided to reboot the game in response to poor test feedback, those plans have now changed.

The publication has speculated that Outriders developer People Can Fly will act as co-developer on the new Killzone project, with the studio having signed an agreement with Sony in 2025 to co-develop a project based on an existing PlayStation IP.

First released in 2004, Killzone served as PlayStation’s answer to the Halo series, with four instalments released across PS2, PS3 and PS4, as well as two spin-off titles on PSP and PS Vita.

There hasn’t been a new Killzone game since Killzone: Shadow Fall, which launched alongside the PlayStation 4 in 2013. In the years that followed, Guerrilla Games’ focus shifted to the Horizon series, which has become a core part of PlayStation’s first-party offering since its debut in 2017.
