Sony has announced that it will be shutting down Bluepoint Games. The Texas-based developer was acquired by Sony in 2021 following the successful release of Demon’s Souls remake in 2020.
In a statement issued to Bloomberg, a Sony spokesperson said that roughly 70 employees will lose their jobs “following a recent business review.”
“Bluepoint Games is an incredibly talented team and their technical expertise has delivered exceptional experiences for the PlayStation community,” the spokesperson said. “We thank them for their passion, creativity and craftmanship.”

In a message reposted on Resetera, PlayStation Studios boss Herman Hulst claimed the studio closure was made due to “an increasingly challenging industry environment”.
“Rising development costs, slowed industry growth, changing player behavior, and broader economic headwinds are making it harder to build games sustainably,” Hulst wrote. “To navigate this reality, we need to continue adapting and evolving. We’ve taken a close look at our business to ensure we’re delivering today while still well-positioned for the future. As a result, we will be closing Bluepoint Games in March.
“This decision was not made lightly. Bluepoint is an incredibly talented team and their technical expertise has delivered exceptional experiences for the PlayStation community.”
Hulst continued: “ I want to thank everyone at Bluepoint for their creativity, craftsmanship, and commitment to quality. Where possible, we will work to find opportunities for some impacted employees within our global network of studios.
“While I know this is hard news to hear, I’m confident in the direction we’re headed. Creativity, innovation, and building unforgettable experiences for players remain at the heart of PlayStation Studios.”

Based in Austin, Texas, Bluepoint games were founded in 2006 and quickly built a reputation for producing high quality remasters and remakes of classic games. The studio quickly developed a strong partnership with Sony, producing remasters for the God of War and Uncharted trilogies, as well as remaking the cult classic Shadow of the Colossus in 2018.
Bluepoint’s crowing achievement arguably came in 2020 with the release of Demon’s Souls remake. The PS5 launch title elevated From Software’s 2009 classic to new heights, scoring 92 on Metacritic.
Following the success of Demon’s Souls remake, Sony tasked Bluepoint with co-developing God of War Ragnarok alongside Sony’s Santa Monica Studio. The game released in 2022 to strong critical reception, selling more than 15 million copies as of November 2023.
Shortly after Ragnarok’s release, Bluepoint began work on a live-service God of War game, which was scrapped in January 2025. At the time, Sony said it would work with the developer to determine their next project.
