Hollow Knight: Silksong releases next month

After years of speculation, anticipation and many, many memes, Hollow Knight: Silksong finally has a release date.

Announced as part of a brand-new trailer, developer Team Cherry has confirmed that the game will release on September 4th. The game will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Hollow Knight: Silksong will also be available day one on Xbox Game Pass.

Those attending Gamescom this week will also have the chance to play the game before its release next month. The demo has already proven to be extremely popular, with reports claiming that queue times on media day were over an hour long.

Announced in 2019, Hollow Knight: Silksong was originally planned as DLC for the first game, before later expanding into a full sequel. After three years of radio silence, Silksong resurfaced, this time as part of the 2022 Xbox Game Showcase, where Microsoft would boldly claim that every game shown would be released within the next year.

Unfortunatelty, this would not be the case for Silksong, and the game became the subject of light hearted jokes and memes before most Nintendo, PlayStation and Xbox presentations.

Silksong made an unexexpected, but brief appearance at the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct earlier this year, before featuring at Xbox’s annual games showcase in June. “The highly anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong will be available at launch and in Game Pass when the Ally releases later this year,” said Xbox president Sarah Bond.

Some fans saw this as confirmation that Silksong would be a launch title for the upcoming handheld, but this would later be ruled out. “I confirmed BEFORE holiday,” said Matthew Griffin, who handles marketing and publishing on behalf of Team Cherry. “We are not tied to a console release.”

With just two weeks to go until launch, the long wait will soon be over.
