Microsoft has announced that it will be reversing its decision to price its future first-party games at $80. This price drop will also apply to Obsidian Entertainment’s upcoming RPG, The Outer Worlds 2, which was originally announced as the first $80 Xbox game.
Microsoft has also confirmed that players who’ve pre-ordered the game will receive full refunds so that they can pre-order the game at the new adjusted price.
“Dear Galactic Citizens!” a social media post from the developers read. “We have received your SOS via skip drone about the pricing. As an organization devoted to making sure that corporations do not go unfettered, we at the Earth Directorate have worked with [REDACTED] to revise the price of The Outer Worlds 2.”
“While this will not bring peace to the galaxy, or even your local colony, we assure you all that we are here to fight for all colonies in every way that we can.”
In a statement issued to press, an Xbox spokesperson said: “We’re focused on bringing players incredible worlds to explore, and will keep our full priced holiday releases, including The Outer Worlds 2, at $69.99 – in line with current market conditions.”
The Outer Worlds 2 is set to release on October 29th, 2025, for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC. The game will also be available day one on Xbox Game Pass.
