Xbox announces multiplatform releases for four games, including Sea of Thieves

During last week’s Xbox business update, Microsoft revealed that four unnamed first-party titles would be coming to other console platforms, but stopped short of saying what games would be making the jump to other platforms.

Various reports had claimed that the unnamed titles were Pentiment, Grounded, Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves. In a blog post on Xbox Wire, Xbox has confirmed that these four games are coming to other console platforms. “Today we are announcing that four fan-favorite Xbox games will be coming to Nintendo Switch and Sony platforms this spring,” a statement read. “The studios that built these celebrated games have drawn on their multi-platform experience to open the worlds they created to even more players and communities.

Starting tomorrow, February 22nd, PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch owners will be able to play Pentiment, the critically acclaimed medieval murder mystery title from Obsidian. Tango Gameworks’ award-winning action/rhythm game Hi-Fi-Rush comes to PlayStation 5 on March 19, followed by Grounded, which releases on PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch on April 16th.

Finally, Rare’s shared world pirate adventure Sea of Thieves comes to PlayStation 5 on April 30th. Both Sea of Thieves and Grounded will also support crossplay.

Before last week’s business update, reports suggested that Starfield and Indiana Jones were being considered for multiplatform releases. Xbox boss Phil Spencer later confirmed that neither game would be going multiplatform at this time, but stopped short of ruling out the possibility entirely. “I don’t think we should as an industry ever rule out a game going to any other platform,” Spencer said in an interview with The Verge.
