The NWSL and UWCL arrive in FIFA 23 this month

Electronic Arts are set to introduce two more women’s competitions to FIFA 23 on March 23rd. The new additions were announced by EA in a blog post.

The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) is the top professional women’s football league in America, where world cup winners such as Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe currently play. The NWSL will include all 12 teams, in addition to the “authentic match broadcast experience.”

All NWSL clubs will be playable in Kick-Off, Online Seasons, Online Friendlies and Tournament Mode.

In addition to the NWSL, the UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) will also be added to the game. The UWCL features some of the best teams in Europe battling it out to be crowned European champions. Players will be able to start their Champions League journey with any of the European teams currently in the game. EA has also announced the arrival of 4 new women’s teams to the game:

  • Real Madrid C.F.
  • Vfl Wolfsburg
  • Juventus
  • Eintracht Frankfurt

These clubs will join the join the existing roster of teams from the Women’s Super League (WSL), and Division 1 Féminine (D1F/D1 Arkema). Much like the NWSL, the UWCL will also include a “full broadcast experience” that includes authentic match broadcast overlays and branding. UWCL matches will be playable in both Kick-Off and Tournament Mode, with the 4 new clubs being added to the “Rest of World” category. All the new clubs will also be playable in Online Seasons and Online Friendlies.

The introduction of two new competitions is a sign of EA’s continued commitment to feature more women’s football in their games. Following the addition of the NWSL and UWCL, EA are also set to add content for the Women’s World Cup, which kicks off in Australia and New Zealand in June.
